How do I know if I have bad posture?

  • When you look at yourself straight on in the mirror, one shoulder looks higher than the other
  • If you stand with your back against the wall, you have to push your head back to get it to touch the wall

What is required for proper posture?
  • Good muscle flexibility
  • Normal motion in the joints
  • Strong postural muscles
  • A balance of muscles on both sides of the spine
  • Awareness of your own posture, plus awareness of proper posture which leads to conscious correction. With practice, the correct posture for standing, sitting, and lying down will gradually replace your improper posture

If you already have good posture, you can still benefit from incorporating the Straighten Up Alberta
program into your daily fitness routine to continue to keep your spine in great shape and your posture the best it can be.
